Heart Scan
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral from
my physician to get a Heart Scan?
Although a physician referral is not required for a Heart Scan, it
is recommended that you work closely with your doctor and discuss
your risk factors for heart disease and heart attack.
What can I expect during
a Heart Scan?
Getting a Heart Scan is both quick and painless. You will be asked
to put on a gown and will then have EKG leads placed on your chest.
After the test, you will receive a preliminary photo printout of your
results. A final report will be mailed to you within a few days of
your test.
How long does a Heart Scan
take?
There is little or no preparation required, and the entire process
should take less than an hour. The actual time in the CT scanner is
5 minutes.
What will the results of
a Heart Scan tell me?
The result of the heart scan will be read by both a cardiologist and
a radiologist and will show your risk of coronary artery disease.
A limited portion of the lung is also included on the scan and will
be evaluated.

Heart Scan at St. Joseph's Hospital?

How much does a Heart Scan
cost?
For $250, you'll receive the scan, a preliminary photo printout of
your results and a complete calcium scoring analysis. For your convenience,
we accept payment by check, Visa or MasterCard.
Is Heart Scan covered by insurance?
Heart scans are usually not covered by insurance and at this time
we won't be billing insurance companies for the scans. For a service
to be covered, most insurers require that a patient is referred by
a doctor. A doctor's referral is not required for a Heart Scan.
