on our state-of-the-art hospital.
The new and expanded St. Joseph’s will house some of the most sophisticated technology available, paired with the expertise of our caring staff. Spanning the intersection of Tenth and St. Peter Streets, the building project will take our current high-quality care to the next level.
New patient tower
At the center of our plan is a new five-story hospital building on the current campus, which will be followed by renovation of existing facilities.
To meet patient needs now and in the future, the new hospital has been carefully designed to:
- Promote healing
- Enhance comfort for patients and families
- Create centers for specialized services and breakthrough treatments
- Help staff deliver care more efficiently and effectively
The new patient tower will include:
- Centralized Heart Care and Neuroscience Centers
- Four new operating rooms with specialized technology
- Private rooms for all patients
- New main entrance, lobby and chapel
- 3M Education Center equipped with multi-media technology
Complementing the new facility, St. Joseph’s will renovate existing facilities and:
- Expand the emergency department
- Add two new operating rooms for minimally-invasive procedures
- Make other internal improvements

Emergency Department
The Emergency Department is often the busiest part of a hospital and St. Joseph’s is no exception - more patients come to our emergency room than any other department at the hospital.

After the expansion, St. Joseph's Emergency Department will nearly double in size, allowing us to serve more patients, more quickly.
Rooms will offer privacy and be equipped with monitors to provide faster diagnoses. Special rooms will be built to care for the most at-risk patients.
The current emergency department will be renovated to:
- Increase the capacity to care for more critically ill patients
- Better meet patients’ needs for privacy and safety
- Provide drop-off areas and parking spaces for patients
and loved ones

Chapel
In a busy and challenging environment, the chapel will provide a quiet place for prayer, meditation and solace. The new chapel will be centrally located on the 2nd floor, just above the main lobby, as a reminder that a greater spirit is in service to the mission of compassionate care.
Spiritual Care is central to St. Joseph's mission and is provided to patients, family members and employees. The Spiritual Care team offers support by listening, praying, offering Sacraments, facilitating communication and helping resolve ethical concerns.
At sensitive and significant times, the caring presence and personal prayers of the Spiritual Care team embody the values of St. Joseph's Hospital and its founding Sisters of St. Joseph's of Carondelet.
In the new facility, the chapel will:
- Offer a central location on the 2nd floor, just above the main lobby
- Provide a place for prayer, meditation and solace

Lobby, Atrium and Café
Fifty years of adding to the existing facility has resulted in several entrances to the hospital, making it difficult for patients and visitors to find their way around.
In the new facility, the three-story atrium and lobby will serve as the center of the St. Joseph’s Hospital community.
The beautiful, centralized entrance will be the main entry point for all patients and visitors. In addition to being convenient, it will help maintain safety and security.
To create a single, centrally located entrance to St. Joseph’s, the new facility will feature:
- An atrium and lobby, filled with light and accessible from both the parking ramp and the street
- A convenient information area to guide patients and visitors to their desired location
- A café that will serve as an informal gathering place for visitors and family members
